A mezzo-soprano praised for her warm, rich
voice, Marian Rambelle is a versatile singer who performs as a soloist in opera,
oratorio, musical theater, and recital in periods spanning the Baroque through
Contemporary. She has collaborated with companies such as Opera Boston,
Opera Providence, New England Light Opera, Longwood Opera, Fiddlehead Theater
Co., and the Reagle Players, as well as orchestras and choruses in New England. Some of her recent opera credits include La Suora Zelatrice in Suor
Angelica, the
Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Hansel in Hansel
and Gretel, Zozo in The Merry Widow, Cecily in Pasatieri's contemporary American opera La Divina,
and the world premiere of Garzilli's
Michelangelo. At the composer's invitation, she created the role
of Jo in a studio recording of Jeff Flaster's
The Secret of Success.
Marian recently performed several roles (including 2nd Maid, Lady Boxington,
and the Queen) in Fiddlehead's IRNE award-nominated (Best Musical) production of
My Fair Lady. She was also critically acclaimed for her portrayal
of the nun Sister Berthe in The Reagle Players' IRNE-nominated (Best Musical) The Sound of
Music (with John Davidson).
As a
member of the award-winning Opera To Go outreach ensemble since 2005, she
has enjoyed introducing opera in unique interactive programs to many thousands
of children in
greater Boston elementary and middle schools. She has also played
the Alto Caterpillar in Geoff Hudson's The Bug Opera workshop at
the Indian Hill Music Center (MA) and the mezzo-soprano in
Malcolm Fox's children's chamber opera Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing
at the South Shore Conservatory's Amphitheater (MA).
Marian's solo oratorio performances include works of Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Handel,
Haydn, Saint-Saens, Mendelssohn, and Pergolesi in collaboration with many New England
orchestras and choruses, such as the Arlington Philharmonic, Masterworks
Chorale, Chorus pro Musica, the Paul Madore Chorale and Orchestra, and the
Concert Singers of Greater Lynn and Orchestra.
A graduate of the Longy School of Music and Cornell University, she won overall
Best French Song as well as 2nd place (Div. 5) in the National Association of
Singing Teachers (NATS) 2008 Song Festival competition (Boston chapter).
